Our Mindset Matters...

Wow...such a lot has changed in less than a week!!
Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of talking to the students and staff in DIFE Drogheda Institute of Further Education on the topic of 'Seizing Opportunities with a Positive Mindset' (see can you spot me among the students š§š) as part of their Health & Wellness week.

And now this week, I, like many others have had to suspend my work with clients, doing talks and running workshops etc. and it is unclear as to when this will change. It is now more than ever that the content of this talk comes into play and how we can attempt to approach the situation we are all in with a positive mindset. The talk covered 5 main areas
Choice
Energy
Focus
Beliefs
Strengths
and each one of these will need to be harnessed and applied to get through what may be a number of weeks, if not months of change. Change in how we live our life, change in how we work or don't, change in our financial situation etc. etc..
However, at this moment I am choosing to take this as an opportunity to pause. And instead of focusing my energy on panic, on all I am missing out on and the 'what ifs' (of which I have no control), instead I am choosing to focus my energy on :
gratitude - thinking of all I have in my life with thanks, thinking of all those working on the front line, exposing themselves to this virus, to be there for me and my family if we ever need their service, thinking of my family and friends who are currently all safe and well;
helping those who may need my help. I have reached out to my neighbours - if any of you are reading this, please don't be afraid to contact me, if I can help in anyway;
consciously spending quality time with my children. With time to now pause, I have found with the busyness of their life and my life we have not really had the time to do some of the things we have wanted to do. So we have made a family 'wish list' of simple things we would like to do together now that we can (please note - approach with caution - as there were some I purposely had 'no time' to do LOL!). This gives them a distraction, something to focus on and hopefully have happy memories when we get through this ordeal;
making the photo albums I never had time to make;
getting my assignment done with less stress, as I do not have to fit it in around work; and
the fact that I get to see more of my husband as he is now working from home.
I'm sure as they days and weeks move on I can add to this list, but I feel this is a good start and has helped me to look at this situation with a different mindset.
I also listened to a great podcast by Dr. Rangan Chatterjee and Claudia Hammond on 'Why You Need More Rest'. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/feel-better-live-more-with-dr-rangan-chatterjee/id1333552422?i=1000464009455
They discuss finding whatever it is that makes you feel rested - for some it maybe going for a walk, gardening, reading etc... Maybe you could take this opportunity to discover what it is that helps you feel rested and then when you go back to your busy life you can use this resource to reset, to help improve your mental health and well-being.
If I can help any of you in anyway please send me a PM and I will try to help in anyway I can.
Stay safe and take care.
